WEST AFRICA MUST UNITE TO DEFEAT TERRORISM, BANDITRY, TINUBU TELLS FAYE

President Bola Tinubu has called on West African countries to unite to defeat terrorism, human trafficking, banditry and other criminal activities affecting the region.

President Tinubu made the call at the State House in Abuja while receiving President Bassirou Faye of Senegal where he advised leaders in the region to make the people the point of convergence in governance.

A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, stated that he also called for an alignment of purpose and structure in West Africa to effectively address the challenges confronting the region, adding that the essence of democracy is lost when the people are not the focal point.

Emphasizing democratic governance, values and constitutional order, the President said these are sacrosanct and must be protected.
He further tasked the Senegal President to collaborate with ECOWAS by meeting and persuading Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali, countries under the military junta in West Africa back into the ECOWAS community.

In his remarks, President Faye acknowledged Nigeria and Senegal’s shared values, ideals, and challenges, emphasizing that both nations have always had good relations since the Nineteen Sixties.

The Senegalese President called for the reactivation of the Nigeria-Senegal joint commission to strengthen bilateral relations across the areas of diplomacy, trade, and other spheres.
