VIDEO: WHY I FEATURED SEYI VIBEZ, ASAKE ON MY NEW ALBUM – AYRA STARR

Ayra Starr, the Nigerian songstress, has revealed why she featured Seyi Vibez and Asake on her forthcoming album.

The 21-year-old will be releasing ‘The Year I Turned 21’, her second studio album, very soon.

In an interview with Beat FM, the singer said before she features an artiste in her project, she usually thinks of the “sonics” — the qualities and characteristics of sound within a piece.

Fans of Asake and Vibez have always engaged in superiority battles — although the artistes have never fought online.

Speaking on the collaboration, Starr said she was unaware of a rivalry between Vibez and Asake’s fan bases.

The songstress also said she did not feature them because of their rivalry.

“I didn’t put Asake and Seyi Vibez on my album because of their rivalry. I didn’t know about the rivalry between Asake and Seyi Vibez. I just love both of them as artistes,” she said.

“I’m really big on sonics; what would sound good sonically? My team is always thinking of the business side but I’m just thinking of who would be sonically compatible with me. And I’ve been listening to Seyi Vibez’s Different Pattern for a very long time.

“So I decided to work with him. When I sent the record to him, he sent his verse almost immediately. They were very quick with it. Asake, too, he sent me his verse in three days.”

Born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, Starr became a viral sensation after releasing her hit track ‘Bloody Samaritan’ in 2021.

She was among the Nigerian music artistes nominated for this year’s Grammy Awards.

She was nominated in the maiden ‘Best African Music Performance’ category for ‘Rush’.

The music star, however, lost to Tyla, the South African singer.
