Burna Boy has broken his record for highest-grossing concert by an African artiste in the United States.
On Friday, it was reported by Touring Data that the Grammy Award winner raked in $1.725 million during his ‘I Told Them’ tour at the Capital One Arena in Washington on March 7, 2024.
This feat sees Burna Boy break his previous African record set at the TD Garden in Boston.
“Burnaboy earns the highest-grossing arena-concert by an African artist in US history with $1.725 million at Capital One Arena in Washington on March 7, 2024, surpassing his own record at TD Garden in Boston,” the post reads.
In 2023, the ‘African Giant’ hitmaker was named the African artiste with the highest revenue from a single concert.
Born Damini Ogulu, Burna Boy rose to stardom in 2013 with the release of ‘Like to Party,’ the lead single from his debut album ‘L.I.F.E.’
In 2021, Burna Boy won the ‘Best World Music Album’ category at the Grammy Awards with his fifth album ‘Twice As Tall’
In April, the Port Harcourt-born singer made the Time Magazine’s list of 100 most influential people for 2024.
The Canadian senate also hailed him for contributing to their entertainment space.
Alibaba, the ace Nigerian comedian, recently said the Afrofusion artiste, has “done more for national awareness than any of the country’s ambassadors”.
“The value of the creative industry right now? Beyond,” he said.
“For instance, you have a single artiste going to London at the 02 Arena, closing it down and earning close a million, two million pounds, and coming back to Nigeria with that kind of money, even if they took 50% of it… Burna Boy has done a lot more for Nigerian national awareness than any ambassador that has been posted to America, posted to the UK, or posted to any other place.
“So these artistes that are performing are bringing national awareness and making other countries to even know about us than any ambassador would have done.”
