TEENAGER SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPING STUDENT

An Ondo State High Court, sitting in Akure, the state capital, has sentenced a 17-year-old boy, Jibola Fakologbon, to 14 years imprisonment for assaulting and raping a student.

The convict was arrested for committing the offence at Ero community in Ifedore Local Government Area of the state in December 2021. He was later charged and arraigned before the court on two counts bordering on assault and rape.

According to the prosecuting counsel, D.G. Kayode, the convict on March 11, 2021, at about 5 pm, at Ero via Igbara-Oke, indecently assaulted a lady (name withheld), who is a student of Ero College of Education, by touching her breast and giving her bodily harm.

The convict at the same place and time was also alleged to have had unlawful sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent.

The offences, according to the prosecution, contravened Sections 60 and 358 of the Criminal Code of Ondo State, 2016.

During one of the proceedings, the victim told the court that while she was going home on the fateful day, the defendant waylaid her and demanded money from her but she refused to give him. It was after that that the convict assaulted her sexually.

In his judgement, Justice Yemi Fasanmi said the prosecution was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt and that all the evidence before the court against the convict corroborated that of the victim.

The judge sentenced the convict to two years imprisonment for the offence of indecent assault and 12 years imprisonment for the offence of rape.
