AJAYI CROWTHER UNIVERSITY EXPELS STUDENTS FOR BEATING COLLEAGUE TO DEATH OVER ‘STOLEN PHONE’

The management of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU) in Oyo has expelled some students of the institution for beating their colleague to death over alleged phone theft.

In a now-viral clip, the expelled students were seen beating their colleague who was rolling on the floor while one of them can be heard shouting “harder, harder”.

The victim was also captured gasping for air as he became numb after he was beaten with sticks.

The incident occurred at a hostel known as Shepherd Inn on the school premises. The deceased was reportedly beaten from 6pm on Friday to 10am on Saturday.

In a statement by Femi Atoyebi, its spokesperson, on Sunday, the school management said it has handed all the students involved over to detectives in Oyo state police command for investigation.

In the statement, the private varsity also denied the viral claims that the students involved were members of a secret cult.

It also gave the assurance that justice would be served.

“Contrary to what is trending, the university affirms that there is no cultism in the institution, just as the university has zero tolerance for any sort of anti-societal vices and misconduct,” the statement reads in part.

“It is important to stress that the expelled students do not belong to any cult group.

“The university remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring a safe, conducive, peaceful and godly atmosphere for learning.”
